About Tuktuk Lancaster
HOW DID TUKTUK LANCASTER COME ABOUT?
Tuktuk Lancaster is brought to you by Timm and Kristina Wenger. You might know us from Kids and Cultures, the educational organization we founded in 2003, or from Taste the World, walking and sampling tours in downtown Lancaster since 2009. Our family has lived in Lancaster City for more than 20 years and are delighted to call this town our home.
Six years ago, we visited Guatemala, where we first rode on a tuktuk. We enjoyed this unique form of transportation. Our first tuktuk ride was not our last and it sparked an idea. With your help, here’s what we would like to do.
WHAT IS A TUKTUK?
Based on the pedal rickshaws in Japan, these three-wheeled carts have become motorized, and have spread around the world. These carts are popular in Southeast Asia, Europe, and Latin America. In 2015, tuktuks became available for the first time as electric street-legal vehicles in the United States. Our model is a tuktuk limo. It holds six passengers, and is a super fun way to get around with your friends and see the town. Tuktuks are a fresh new way to see the town, and go on a delicious food tour (coming soon).
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE TUKTUK?
This word is pronounced (and spelled) differently in various parts of the world and country. You can say "tuck-tuck" and "tuke-tuke," and we'll know what you mean. However, we prefer "took-took," as in "I took a ride on a tuktuk." Tuktuks received their name from the sound made by the two-stroke engines common in early models (ours is electric, so it's quiet!).
ARE TUKTUKS SAFE?
Yes! Tuktuks are approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation and have seat belts, and our drivers have clean driving records.
CAN I HIRE THE TUKTUK AS A TAXI OR FOR MY SPECIAL EVENT?
Not in our initial start-up phase, but perhaps down the road. We are starting with tours and want to do those well before any possible expansion of services.
CAN MY BUSINESS ADVERTISE ON THE TUKTUK?
We're glad you asked! We have several different advertising options to get your brand in front of thousands of tourists and locals. Contact us for an advertising packet.
